Philodendron Lady

This piece was going to be a fountain, but I'm not sure how the finish would hold up. it is about 3 feet tall, sculpted of clay, but looks like carved wood.

This is a large head sculpted from clay that I am in the process of casting. I'd like to make multiples and place them in different positions in my yard.

Silk Shawl

I bought some beautiful blue 100 % silk yarn. I started making a scarf, but that seems overdone, plus living in Florida, scarves aren't the necessity in my wardrobe that they used to be. I would like to make a shawl -- but I only bought one skein since it was so expensive. I want to find a pattern for a shallow triangle in a fairly open design. I'm going to look around and see what I can find. I'll take a picture of the yarn, and of the latest felted bag, a little later.

Voting Day

I worked at the polls today as a greeter for Kerry. I was stationed at a precinct in southeast Orlando. It was a very diverse neighborhood- all kinds of people from young first-time voters to older people. Everyone was very pleasant - no hecklers. We did help some people who were turned away for lack of ID, or sent to other precints, and were getting discouraged. I'd say we maybe got three people to vote who woulfn't have if we greeters, and the volunteer voting rights attorney, down from New York, hadn't been there to help. It was a beautiful sunny day. People's waits really varied. Some people waited 3-4 hours, others walked right in, depending on the polling place. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed!

Halloween Observation

While trick-or-treating in downtown Orlando, my son Sam made the following observation about the houses with Bush signs and the houses with Kerry signs. According to Sam, based on our random sample, the Bush supporters choose the candy that they hand to you, while the Kerry supporters let you reach into the bowl and choose your own.
